Dance is a universal human activity. The desire to communicate through movement arises from the innate capacities and impulses to move, express, organize, relate, and communicate.
Our program goes beyond the studio and the stage through theory, history, and interdisciplinary studies. This leads students to discover how the artform is integral to their whole education, applying it to the rest of their creative, professional, and personal lives.
Dance courses are offered each semester for students at every level of ability and experience. Dance faculty are committed to educating the whole person, to developing not only a dance practitioner possessing artistic capabilities and understanding, but a well-rounded human being.
Dancers trained at Beloit are gifted communicators, experienced collaborators, creative problem-solvers, and agile artists.
Be a part of the Chelonia Dance Company, our resident dance group. This all-student company performs each spring, exhibiting the work of faculty, guest artists and students.

Every year, renowned guest artists come to campus to teach, perform, and choreograph dances with students.
Previous guest artists include:
Students sometimes also work with other artists off campus.
Faculty include students in their newest works which travel from Russia to Richmond, Newfoundland to New York City, Tanzania to Tarrytown.
Students also study abroad in places like Malta, Moscow, and Jerusalem.
Chelonia is Beloit’s annual evening of concert dance spanning featuring multiple dance styles. This year featured work by AJ Juarez, an Argentinian choreographer who works in Hip-Hop Dance and Latin Fusion, as well as new works from dance faculty and student choreographers.

“Social Construction”, choreographed by Chris Johnson, started in Chelonia but moved on to be performed in multiple professional festivals. This dance was performed as part of the Dumbo Dance Festival, the Detroit Dance City Festival, The Going Dutch Festival, and the World Dance Alliance in St. John’s Newfoundland.
